Venus
€20.00
Medium-late ripening plant with a very vigorous tree, very productive and relatively sensitive to the winter cold which sometimes leads to an inconstant production capacity. Large, round-oblong fruit, predominantly A-AA size, extensively bright red coloured, 60-80% overcoloured. Yellow pulp, slightly veined with red, of high consistency, stands out, balanced flavor and excellent taste qualities. However, it needs green pruning to improve overcoloration. It tends to present the appearance of a callus on the kernel.
Maturation: 15 August in the South, 25 August in the North.
Recommended rootstocks: Gf 677 | Garnem | P.Montclar

It rightfully belongs to the category of “forgotten fruits.” Cultivated since the time of Ancient Greece, widespread in vegetable gardens and orchards until the early 1900s, now its cultivation is very limited. The scientific name Cydonia derives from Cidonia city on the island of Crete from which quinces known as “cydonee apples” came in Roman times. A very hardy, rustic plant, it prefers soils with little lime. In the past the fruits were used to perfume linens in drawers as an alternative to lavender, important, since Roman times, the phytotherapeutic use, which remained in folk medicine for a long time.
| An oil cultivar widespread in central Italy, with medium vigor and a disorderly, pendulous habit. It is characterized by high adaptability to different environments. It turns out to be well pollinated by Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo as it is self-sterile. This variety is used to pollinate Leccino. It enters production early giving consistently high quantities. Very low in oil content (12.5%). Tolerates cold fairly well but has sensitivity to cycloconium (peacock's eye) and mange. | Plants with very high vigor, needs careful pruning otherwise manifests alternating production. Very large ovoid-shaped fruits, low in sugar but very early. Ripens around June 5-10. | Its color is pink with shades tending toward light brown, and its complex flavor combines sweet with a slightly tart aftertaste. Et voila, here is the Pink Fig of Pisticci! This fig has the shape of a small elongated pear and its weight ranges between 30 and 50 grams, it has a skin with a green color tending to pink, leathery, excellent resistance to handling. | FLOWERING Intermediate, March 1 FLOWERING Semi-open VIGORITY poor PRODUCTIVITY high SHAPE flat CALIBER 2A COLOR PULP white COLOR red MATURATION July 10 |
