Hana Fuyu

Large-sized fruits, spheroidal-flattened, almost quadrangular, orange-yellow in colour. The pulp is always clear and non-astringent (edible) both in fertilized and non-fertilized fruits (parthenocarpic).
The persimmon is a subtropical species but has adapted very well to the Mediterranean climate and tolerates temperatures even below -10 °C but for short periods. It adapts well to any type of soil, including clayey soils, as long as they are not stagnant, with high working clearance.

DescriptionLarge-sized fruits, spheroidal-flattened, almost quadrangular, orange-yellow in colour. The persimmon is a subtropical species but has adapted very well to the Mediterranean climate and tolerates temperatures even below -10 °C but for short periods. It adapts well to any type of soil, including clayey soils, as long as they are not stagnant, with high working clearance. Grown in intensive plantations almost exclusively in Germany, it derives from selections of wild forest cranberries present mainly in Scandinavian and Northern European countries. Cranberry can be grown in the same areas as giant cranberry as the soil and climate requirements are similar; However, the development of the plant is much smaller, about 30 cm in height, and ripening takes place when the harvest of the giant blueberry is finished, that is, in September. The planting distances are 1 m between rows and 0.25-0.30 m between plants. The harvest can be done by hand with the help of special “combs”. The ripe fruits of the Blueberry are eaten as they are seasoned with lemon and sugar. Jams, jellies, syrups and sauces are also prepared. By fermenting the juice, a slightly alcoholic drink is obtained, blueberry wine, from which, by distillation, an excellent brandy is obtained, which is very popular in Germany and France. Cranberry fruits are used to make excellent jams and preserves. The fruit is an oval/spherical drupe with pericarp that changes from initial green to brown when fully ripened with a consistency similar to that of dates. The mesocarp is yellowish-white with a floury consistency, while the endocarp is woody containing two flattened seeds, although the phenomenon of parthenocarpy is frequent. Harvesting is carried out during the months of September-October. Fresh consumption. Jams, syrups, jams, jellies, candied fruit, sweets, alcoholic beverages and liqueurs (jujube broth). In Asia, dried (Chinese dates) are also consumed. Preservation in brine, alcohol and vinegar. Medicinal properties (soothing and anti-inflammatory effect), it is used for the preparation of expectorant and emollient decoctions. Cosmetics: emollient and moisturizing masks for dry skin. The seeds contain organic compounds with sedative properties. It is used for reforestation. Dietary supplement for grazing animals at certain times of the year. The red wood is very hard and is used in cabinetmaking. Ornamental plant. It is a variety of fig tree of Spanish origin. The name is derived from the shape of the fruit with an elongated top that precisely resembles a “lady's neck.” The fruit is characterized by light green skin and red flesh, with small seeds. It possesses excellent organoleptic properties and good shelf life. It is consumed both as dried and fresh fruit. The white mulberry(Morus alba) is a tree native to East Asia introduced to Italy centuries ago to use its leaves, the only food for the silkworm. Many wild specimens of it can still be found in Dora Park, bearing witness to the presence of cultivation in the past. It can reach 10-15 m in height and has, in its wild forms, a very broad, branching crown; in ancient times it was pruned to continuously produce new branches laden with leaves: in this way, the plant took on the “capitozzata” form. The rind of the white mulberry is smooth, light orange-brown in color; the leaves, maximum size of 8-10 cm, are bright green and vary in shape from heart-shaped ovoid to lobate palmate with 3-5 lobes. Both male and female flowers are separate but present on the same plant(monoecious species) and are grouped in greenish pendulous catkins. The false fruit, which is white in color, is called “sorose” and looks very similar to blackberries; it is edible and very tasty, also eaten by various wild animals. A species similar to the white mulberry is the black mulberry(Morus nigra), also introduced for silk production and now wild. It differs from the white mulberry in that it has a darker, fissured rind, leaves that are more regular in shape, and produces black and red blackberries. Black mulberry blackberries become sweet only when fully ripe while white mulberry blackberries are sweet even when not fully ripe. This is a “Longue d'août” fig, a French bifera variety, which is characterized by the production of very elongated and characteristically shaped blooms, making this cultivar easily recognizable. It is a cold-hardy bifera variety in late summer.
