  • Special features: An old variety with very large fruit it originated in the city of Vranja (Serbia) in 1898. Very firm and compact pulp, it is used in the kitchen in the preparation of quince, a dense jam with an inimitable flavor and aroma, or mustards and jams.
Figue de Solliès is distinguished from figs of the same variety grown in other areas by its caliber, which is above average (at least 40 mm), and by the excellent balance between sour and sweet flavors due to its sugar content, which is 14°Brix. This value ensures that the acidulous notes do not overpower the sweet ones, as is the case with Brogiotto Nero from different zones. During the planting phase of the orchard, the trees, which are grown “in alberello,” are buried at a distance of at least 5 m from each other, and each has a minimum area of 25 m2. Only fruits from trees that have been planted for at least 3 years are harvested. Harvesting, which begins when 80 percent of the figs have a skin with a minimum of 80 percent purple coloring, is done by hand, from August 15 to November 15. Figs are harvested and transported from the orchard to the storage location in crates whose contents cannot exceed 20 kg. The time between harvest and shipment, after packing, cannot exceed five days. During this period, figs are stored at a temperature not exceeding 8°C to avoid the harmful effects of heat. Because of the fragility of the product and in order to preserve the quality and typical characteristics of the appellation, packaging must take place quickly and compulsorily in the geographical area identified as exclusive to production. The Kaki Spider plant produces medium to large fruits that have a dark web-like lattice at the bottom. The pulp is endowed with high nutritive value. Ripens In late autumn. IT REQUIRES A POLLINATOR. MINIMUM ORDER 5 PIECES (4 HP AEGYNA + 1 PINNER). Very resistant to drought, in Sicily it is grown at an altitude ranging from 300 to 750 m. It adapts to rocky and calcareous soils and also to volcanic lavas; it prefers southern exposures. Good resistance to cold, it fears spring frosts. In natural pistachio groves, the planting density varies from 50 to 500 plants per hectare, grown with a shape called “stump”, very similar to the polycaule pot, while in artificial ones, square layouts of 6-10 x 6-10 m are used with investments of 100-280 plants per hectare, grown in a more or less open pot and scaffolded at 80-100 cm. Pruning operations are limited as, especially the large branches, heal very slowly. During the production phase, annual or multi-annual interventions are carried out to eliminate decayed, dry and diseased branches. In some cases, green pruning interventions are also implemented, such as chequering and suckering (in the terebinth). To contain the development of weeds and limit evaporation, some surface processing or chemical weeding can be carried out. The fruit is generally harvested in September, by hand and, sometimes, with the help of tarpaulins or nets. This operation, which was once performed in 2-3 times, is now generally carried out in a single solution. After harvesting, the fruits must be deprived of the husk and placed to dry in the sun for a few days. The production of pistachios is quite variable (on average from 7 to 10 quintals per hectare of nuts. Feijoa-the Portuguese name forAcca Sellowiana derived from the discoverer of the plant-is a perennial fruit tree that belongs to the Myrtaceae family. In addition to food purposes, it is also exploited as an ornamental shrub in many gardens. The feijoa plant is native to the subtropical zone of South America. It is grown in areas characterized by mild, dry climates. The tree has leaves that are dark green above and silvery below. It possesses large white flowers with a purple interior. The fruits, on the other hand, have an oblong shape and are about 2 inches long. These are also green, but clear and opaque. They bear a translucent and tender pulp inside. The flavor of feijoa is similar to that of pineapple along with guava and strawberries.
