By Vivai Piante Spinelli 05/11/2021

Apricots are fruits with truly unique properties: a cocktail of beta-carotene and lycopene. If you were wondering what these names mean, it is easy to say: these are two substances that hinder the formation of cholesterol in our body.

Along with these beneficial properties, apricots also contain as much as 3 grams of fiber which are essential not only for keeping weight under control but also for hyperglycemia.

For those who are interested in skin health, there is no shortage of antioxidant properties, due to the presence of vitamin A, in apricot thanks to which it is possible to fight free radicals.

Apricots have also long been used in traditional Asian medicine because they were thought to increase female fertility. A curiosity about this aspect is that science has confirmed the veracity of what might seem at first glance just a popular rumor because the apricot is rich in minerals useful for the production of sex hormones.

This fruit is now widely spread in Europe and is highly appreciated by growers in different parts of Italy for its taste and its adaptability to food processing in products such as juices or preserves.

Let’s get to know together some of the early and self-fertile apricot varieties that can be well adapted to the different needs of growers.
